Course Summary: The three days are designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to make a start to running your own business.

  • Cash Security, Stock Control and Fraud Awareness - best practice.
  • Catering - the type of catering that should be offered for a particular pub. Includes key factors such as costing and stock control.

  • Employment Law - all the legislation retailers need to know - employing staff, contracts of employment and the transfer of rights
  • Finance & Business Planning - the basics of accounting in a simple and uncomplicated way. The tools necessary to manage business finances and statutory responsibility including VAT and PAYE
  • Food Hygiene Legislation -the key legal requirements
  • Health & Safety - Health & Safety policies, accidents, chemicals and other hazardous substances, risk assessment and pub safety.
  • Marketing, Merchandising and Maximising Machine Income - builds on the work they may have begun by completing their business plan, including the key principles of internal merchandising and opportunities for maximising sales.
  • Recruitment, Training and Staff Management - gives them the tools to ensure the right people are employed for their pub and provides an easy structure to follow when training new and existing staff.
  • Serving and Presentation of Drinks - demonstrates best practice guidelines for serving key products.
  • Other key areas of legislation - various other legislative matters will be covered including weights and measures, consumer protection, gaming and DDA.

This course will provide the knowledge and confidence to make a flying start in your business. The intensive 3 day programme is designed to suit everyone, with or without previous experience in the industry. Qualifications - On completing the course and a successful exam result, delegates will be awarded the following nationally recognised qualification:

  • BIIAB Level 2 Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations (ILRO)
    If delegates already hold the BIIAB NCPLH, they will also be awarded a certificate for the
  • BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate in Licensed Retailing (NCLR)
    The course qualifies successful candidates for graduate membership of the BII. The BII is the only nationally recognised awarding body, unique to licensed retailing.
