The Basics (Steps To Running Your Own Pub)

I'm interested in running a pub with Marston’s, what do I do now?

Before you do anything, do your homework! The BII'S Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT) is an e-learning package that identifies the main issues which need to be considered and investigated before signing a pub tenancy or lease agreement with us. In addition go and work in a pub for a weekend and see if it's for you!

If you see a pub that you are interested in, go and visit it as a customer and have a look at the surrounding area. Is this the right pub and location for you?

Check if you have the relevant funding required for the pub you're interested in, are your funds easy to access?

Do you have a Personal Licence? You need this to run a pub, go to the skills development section to find out more.

When you are ready to, you can apply for a specific pub.

After submitting your application you will receive a call from the Recruitment Team within 5 days for an initial suitability assessment. Following which your application will be sent to a Business Development Manager. We'll speak to you about any pubs you are interested in and help you find a suitable one.

Business Development Manager will be in contact with you to arrange 1st meeting

Following success of 1st meeting a 2nd meeting will be scheduled with Business Development Manager to discuss your Business Plan (Subject to a satisfactory credit check )

If your 2nd meeting is successful & your Business Plan and ideas for the pub are viable you will be offered the pub in writing with the terms of the agreement set out.

Attend any other required training courses prior to moving into your pub. (Eg Cellar Management or EPOS till training for Retail Agreements)

It's Change Over Day!

CONGRATULATIONS you're in your pub! GOOD LUCK!!
