Woodland walk sees pub sales soar

Woodland walk sees pub sales soarA sudden surge in popularity for the Hackfall Woods walk has seen a Grewelthorpe pub's sales increase by 25%.

The large influx of visitors to the area came about following an article published in The Daily Telegraph naming Hackfall woods as one of autumn's top ten walks in the UK and The Crown Inn, which acts as a starting point for the main woodland walk, has reaped the benefits.

Licensee Glenn Royston' who runs the Marston's pub with his wife Caroline said: "It has been great for business. People have been travelling from over a hundred miles away just to see the beauty of the falling leaves in Hackfall Woods and where the leaves have been dropping we have seen our sales really pick up.

"Visitors travelling all that way to see the area of outstanding beauty want nothing more than a proper country pub serving locally sourced' home cooked meals' a selection of real beers and offering real atmosphere and that's exactly what we give them."

The pub has a close relationship with the Hackfall Woodland Trust and has set up an organised walk that will start from the pub at 1pm on 28 November followed by an evening with a professional story teller who will recall tales of Hackfall from 7pm.
